Ruth A. Anderson studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Thomas Anshutz, William Merritt Chase, Hugh Breckinridge, and Cecilia Beaux. She studied abroad before marrying and moving to New England where she became a well-known Gloucester artist. She exhibited regularly at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Corcoran Gallery, and the North Shore Art Association, of which she was a founding member.
