Yarde

Richard
Yarde has been an important Massachusetts and New England artist
since the 1960s. He received an M.F.A. from Boston University
and is currently a Professor at the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst. Most notably, Yarde's work explores themes associated
with his African-American heritage. He has won numerous prestigious
awards, including the Commonwealth Award for Fine Art (2002)
and an Academy Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts
and Letters (1995). He has exhibited at Smith College Museum
of Art; the Studio Museum in Harlem; Institute of Contemporary
Art, Boston; The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; and
the Smithsonian Institute. His works are included in the collections
of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Smithsonian Institute; Museum
of Fine Arts, Boston; and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
