Lynd
Ward
American
1905-1985
Lynd Ward
is regarded as one of the great masters of wood engraving of
the past century. He studied at Columbia University and the Leipzig
Academy of Graphic Arts (with Hans Mueller and Frans Masereel).
In 1929, Ward published his first "novel without words,"
a book with 139 wood engravings and no text. In later years,
Ward published five additional woodcut novels and illustrated
or authored countless other books. Throughout his publishing
career, Ward produced outstanding original prints, paintings,
and watercolors.
