Julio de Diego

1900-1979

Julio de Diego was born in Spain, studied in Madrid and Paris, and moved to the United States in the 1920s. He became a highly regarded painter, muralist, designer, and illustrator with exhibitions at the New York 1939 World's Fair and the Golden Gate Exposition. De Diego's paintings, often showing surrealist influences, were also included in the Surrealist Exhibtion of 1947 in Paris and London. His work is in major public and private collections, including the Walker Art Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Art.
