Presser American 1907-1967 Josef Presser was born in Poland, emigrated to Boston at an early age, and took classes at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston until the mid-1920s. His studies continued in Europe until the 1930s. After returning from Europe, Presser initially established a studio in Philadelphia before eventually settling in New York City. Concurrently, Presser established a summer studio in Woodstock, New York and became a prominent member of the Woodstock artists' colony and the Woodstock Art Association. Presser exhibited widely, including at venues such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the Whitney, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Weyhe Gallery. His work is in numerous public and private collections, including the Uffizi, Florence; The Whitney Museum; The Metropolitan Museum of Art; and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Sold |
