Hector
Poleo
Venezuelan
1918-1989
Hector Poleo studied at the Academia de Bellas Artes de Caracas
in Venezuela and with Diego Rivera in Mexico in the 1940s. Poleo
exhibited at the Venice and Sao Paulo Biennials in the 1950s.
He received the Premio Nacional de Artes Plástica in Venezuela
in the 1970s. His work is in major public and private collections.
During the breadth of his career, Poleo's work evolved from social
realism to surrealism to lyrical abstraction. He is regarded
as one of Venezuela's most important artists of the twentieth
century.
