Harry
Hering
American
1887 -1967
Harry Hering
was a widely exhibited, self-taught WPA era artist. Based in
New York, during the 1920s-1940s Hering had frequent exhibitions
at major New York galleries such as Milch Gallery and Rehn Gallery
as well as at major museum venues such as the Whitney, the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran, the National Academy of Design,
and many others. He was a member of the New York Watercolor Club,
the Woodstock Art Association, and the Salons of America. His
work is in the collections of major museums such as the Whitney
and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Despite his success during
his lifetime, today Hering's works are vastly underappreciated.
