Alexander Nepote
American
1913-1986

Alexander Nepote, a well-known California artist, studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Mills College, and at the University of California with Millard Sheets. In his early years, Nepote was associated with Berkeley school California Scene Painters such as John Haley and Erle Loran. Gradually, Nepote's work became more abstract until study and reflection led him to a commitment to abstract expressions of the landscape. His paintings have won countless awards and are included in hundreds of collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Oakland Art Museum, teh Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Art. Nepote was a professor of painting at CCAC and Professor Emeritus at California State University, San Francisco.
